SARAH QUADE is a professional musician and has taught private and group music lessons to children of all ages for over 25 years.  She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees of music (oboe) from the University of Michigan and has additional certificates in early childhood development.  She is a licensed music instructor through Music Rhapsody, Simply Music, Inner Musician, Music Together, and the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.

As an oboist, Sarah performed regularly with ensembles such as the Maryland Symphony, the Annapolis Symphony, the National Gallery Orchestra, the Virginia Chamber Orchestra, and the Washington Bach Consort, among countless others.  She participated in several recording projects, including a collection of Florian Gassman’s opera overtures with the acclaimed Eclipse Chamber Orchestra which is featured regularly on WETA-FM.  Reviews in the Washington Post have praised her for “playing sublimely”.  Sarah maintains a private studio of oboe students and is frequently sought after to adjudicate competitions.

In addition to teaching oboe, Sarah taught ‘caregiver-and-me’ music classes and worked in preschools for many years before receiving Orff Schulwerk training from Lynn Kleiner, and now specializes in early childhood music and movement education. Featuring Lynn’s Music Rhapsody program, an Orff-based curriculum that acknowledges the creative input of every child, Sarah’s classes include musical games and activities designed to stimulate creativity and encourage children to learn the elements of music naturally, through play.  Through an affiliation with Music Rhapsody, Sarah was introduced to Simply Music Piano, a method with a similar ‘hands-on’ approach to teaching piano, which revolutionized her teaching style and rekindled her love of teaching piano.  Like its founder, Neil Moore, she is passionate about using the ‘playing-based’ method to contribute to the creation of “a world where everyone plays.”

Currently, Sarah maintains a private studio of both oboe and piano students and offers early childhood music education classes in both private and public settings.  She has two adult daughters with her husband and enjoys sailing, skiing, yoga, and hiking with her dog.
